October has been full of excitement - that's for sure!

We held our first ever public Student Art Exhibition at the Peregian Hotel for a whole week between the 14th-21st of October.

In preparation for our student's Art Exhibition; standing bow was quite fitting... proving Yoga may be practised anywhere, anytime.

And what exactly have I been painting? - I hear you ask quite curiously ....

I have been painting....

Mark and Darren, Chris and Leigh - explorers of Tallebudgera Creek.

This delightful little scene is set at the one and only Tallebudgera Creek in West Burleigh on the Gold Coast. This adventure water wonderland was a playground that was explored from this end to that end throughout our childhood. This outdoor painting measures 1200x600 and is designed to live in full sunshine. Now belonging to a dear friend of mine; Mark, this colourful artwork will now live at the doorstep of the creek it so playfully portrays.

Another colourful artwork fresh off the easel is the Mural of the Beach houses...

This mural is 2.4x1.2 in size and is currently on its way to its new home in Dubbo. A personalised mural destined to live outdoors in full sun, this artwork was custom designed; incorporating beloved pets and elements of happiness to the buyer.

And for some super exciting news; I have been invited to paint on behalf of "Sea Shepherd" to help spread the word about marine conservation and the importance of protecting our marine wildlife and coastlines. More details of this Painting to come in the next week. Another year will pass before the next Anzac Day; and again we will remember how so many people put their lives on the line for this amazing country we have today.
Most of us think about it for a moment........ Some of us are children of the soldiers still telling the tales........ And there are those who lived it. --- You know who you are; the brave generation of people who made a difference.

On that note...... I present to you the HMAS PERTH II

So picture this; ... 8am on a picturesque morning, October 18th 1967. All of a sudden, at least 10 north vietnamese shore guns opened fire on her....She immediately returned their fire as she weaved through a 300-shell attack. The Perth's five-inch guns fired a volley every seven or eight seconds.
The Perth takes a direct hit on one of the gun mounts, but manages to avoid major damage; four Australians were wounded.
The Perth fought a running duel as she steamed out to sea beyond range....

This painting is fresh off the easel just this afternoon - and now belongs to my Dad. Wayne Birch...... (who if you haven't guessed already; was on the Perth on this day at the age of 23)

Speaking of Wildlife..... The final murals have now been put up on the Jones Parade Kindy fenceline!!! What a huge project that was - but sooooo rewarding. This mural is based on our local Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Such an amazing place with staff who go above and beyond the call of duty to save our wildlife.

Oh ! - the anticipation must have been just niggling at you .... wondering what the next paintings would be; going up on the fenceline at Jones Parade Kindy at Coolum Beach.

Well wait no longer - you fabulous YOU !

This magical painting represents the innocence and curiosity of our little ones.... and their love of nature. Our natural environment provides such an amazing learning tool, it is full of resources that stimulate our sences and teach us the importance of life.

This piece was painted by Tara Spicer and represents the importance of play and friendships..... a sense of belonging. It has been such a joy to watch the children tickled pink with delight when they find themselves within the paintings.... the recognition of how they are now an important part of the preschool within their community. A true feeling of a sense of belonging.

The lovely Zoe poses with a painting of her as rapunzel. This piece was painted by the lovely Tara Spicer .

You won't find this one on the outside fenceline when you go for a drive-by sticky-beak, sneaky-peak....... instead this beautiful painting lives on the inside of the fence for all the children to see everyday while they play.....encouraging them to role play and use their imaginations to dream and ponder; and wish upon a star.

More works will be going up before christmas both on the inside of the fence and the outside for all to see. So keep an eye out for some fabulous colour and magic to come.

Murals in Coolum Beach

If you have been wondering what I have been working on lately; here it is...... the beginning of an exciting, delightful, magical display of art that will embelish the fenceline of Coolum Kindy, Jones parade at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast.

This delightful piece was based on our beautiful Sunshine Coast beaches, yet portrays the creativity and imagination of a young child's mind and how this amazing Kindy foster's such an important part of this development with one of the most beautiful sandpits I have seen.

Over the next couple of months, more murals will be going up along the Jones parade Coolum Kindy fenceline. Each painting incorporates a magical, whimsy appeal that is based on our natural environment. Every child who attends the Kindy this year (2010) is being photographed and individually painted into the scenes of the murals.

I have been working alongside ...of fellow artist Tara Spicer (who painted the Coolum Kindy sign) to plan and produce an enchanting display of Art ...to colour both inside and out of the preschool's border. Another few magical murals will be going up within the next three weeks, with the entire project completed by christmas.

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky during August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 - so set your alarms for 12.30 in the morning moon seekers!!! This is when Mars comes within 34.65M miles off earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

Wild Beauty of Fraser Island

If you were wondering what I had been up to over the past two weeks,......... I'd tell you that I've been painting a very special piece for a very special event !!!

The expanse of golden white sand which strengths the entire length of the east side of Fraser Island - more commonly known as 75 mile Beach; is the scene that is set for my latest painting......Incorporating the dignified yet beautiful Dingo's that roam this captivating island.

This painting is called "Wild Beauty of Fraser Island"

It is a whopping 1.83 metres X 61 cm

This stunning piece will be auctioned off, raising money towards 'Vegan Warriors' continuing fight to save Fraser Island Dingo's

The Auction will be held on Saturday 21st August "Rock the Boat" event at

Club Envy Maroochydore in Ocean Street.

"Rock the Boat" is a night of compassion for our beautiful animal friends - and all door takings will be going towards Sea Shepherd for the upcoming anti-whaling campaign in the Southern Ocean "Operation No Compromise".

Give me five for kids Art Auction

An Art Auction was held last night at the maroochydore surf club by Mix FM and Give me Five For Kids.

It was a very exciting event, and alot of well known artists donated their art for this wonderful cause.

"You and Me running Free" - was the piece that I donated..... and it was sold in the Silent Auction for a whopping $380 - and very much loved by all who attended.

In total, we raised over $9000 for Mix FM Give Me five for kids; who donate all proceeds to the children's wing in the Nambour Hospital on the Sunshine coast.

What a great way to say thankyou to those who have helped our children through sickness and tough times, and to help those children still in need of urgent medical help.

If you would like to be a part of this fantastic fundraiser in 2011, please contact me for more information.

I would like to invite you to some workshops over the school holidays...."Simply Sketch" & "Awesome Holiday Workshop for Kids" ...

Our Simply Sketch Art workshop for adults (12yrs and above).

We will be exploring expressive and figurative drawing using charcoal, pastels and pencil in this workshop; and it will be held in a relaxed and fun environment with nibbles and tea provided.

Cost will be $15 per person or $20 for 2 people if you bring a friend...

Introducing the very cute Benjie ...

This painting was designed as a multifuncional hanging piece - where all three canvas' can be individually hung or as a complete picture.

Acrylic, modelling compound and Sand were all incorporated in this painting.

Benjie's eye's are a definate main feature in this piece.

This beautiful painting measures 60x75cm and is painted in acrylic on canvas. It now belongs to these lovely little pumpkins and hangs in their loungeroom.

The highlight of this particular painting was last night, as I watched Cameron and Lauren's faces light up in delight as they recognised themselves painted as colourful little creatures of the forest.

She is ever so dreamy and I wish I was keeping this one!

Well, you'll be pleased to know I have finally entered into an art competition.

Coolum Primary school is holding an art competition to raise money at the yearly Coolum Carnival.

Theme being "Carnivalia" I couldn't resist an opportunity to paint my boys ..... I've named this one "Always clowning around".

Hopefully I might win a prize - finger's crossed!!!

Hello everyone....

Just thought I'd drop you a line and show you what I have been working on this past week. These delightfully magical paintings were on display at the Peregian Markets last Sunday. I think the dragon would have to be my favourite...... Thinking of painting it huge for my eldest son Noah - being his idea and all......but have his face for the little pixie. Will keep you posted on that idea progressing.
